Waddle Dees are the species most common throughout the Gamble Galaxy. Born from buildups of ambient magic in an active Fountain of Dreams, they can be found on any planet with both a Fountain of Dreams and intelligent life capable of dreaming. Due to their near-omnipresence throughout the galaxy, there is no "universal" culture shared between them, usually adapting to whatever planet they've grown up on. They also usually do not have a lot of inherent power, though they are extremely resilient and can pick up skills and abilities rather easily.

Waddle Dees are mouthless dreamkin beings following the typical spheroid body plan. The most common kind have orange or red bodies with tan faces, round reddish-pink cheek spots, and yellow feet; but they come in a myriad of other colors, markings, and physical features. They usually have very light, thin fur everywhere but their face - more like fuzz than a proper pelt of fur. Their limbs are simple paws with no paw pads. While there are many, many different varieties, a typical population of Waddle Dees usually tends to trend towards a singular similar appearance, making them somewhat difficult to differentiate to strangers.

As dreamkin beings, their biology is not easily definable or explainable. They are very physiologically similar to other dreamkin beings in that they have no definable internal organs other than a heart (which serves as a center of thought and emotion rather than a circulatory organ), the rest of their insides consisting of a thick and glittery substance that usually shares their eye color. Waddle Dees in particular do not seem to even replicate most biological functions displayed by animal or plant beings, instead functioning simply because they do (for lack of a better way to describe it.) They do not need to eat anything and do not have a mouth (though, they are capable of using magic to consume things anyway), only deriving their energy from resting. This gives them a natural inclination to "go with the flow" and "take it easy", but said instinct can be easily resisted by most individuals if desired.

Waddle Dees are capable of speech, but only via inherent magic. As it is more akin to a form of audible telepathy, it is possible for most Waddle Dees, with enough disclipline, to learn "proper" telepathy or even the ability to make their voice come from elsewhere, but this is a difficult skill for most to learn and thus rather uncommon. Since there is no physical element to their voices, their "natural" voice comes from their subconscious and with practice they can change their voice to be completely unrecognizable, exactly imitate the voices of others, or possibly even imitate various sounds.

Despite a lack of powers inherent to their species, they are very difficult to kill, even by the standards of most races in the Gamble Galaxy. Their bodies are incredibly flexible and rubbery, and with only one distinct internal organ (and one that, arguably isn't required to stay alive, at that), they have few to no weak points. Due to their connection to the Fountain of Dreams, they have a strong resistance to outside magic but can also easily adapt to any magic type - though one completely overwhelmed by an outside magic may become a Waddle Doo, a distinct subspecies.

As Waddle Dees have no singular culture unique to their race, it's impossible to singularly describe it. However, the combination of their lack of natural power, their natural inclination to be laidback, their tendency to look near-identical within a population, and the fact that they have no cultural identity of their own has given their race a reputation as followers. Many of those of other species often underestimate Waddle Dees or take them for granted. Ironically, this has had the complete reverse effect of making many Waddle Dees very strongly individual and fixated on establishing their identity or proving their worth.

Their near omnipresence throughout the galaxy makes them often widely accepted as normal even among more reclusive or even xenophobic races. It's often regarded as much stranger for someone not to be familiar with them as a species. In many cases, they even serve as the backbone to a workforce or entire society's government. However, there are few civillizations inhabited by almost exclusively Waddle Dees, as a first generation of them cannot generate without a preexisting intelligent race powering the Fountain of Dreams.

Most Waddle Dees born directly from the Fountain of Dreams tend to name themselves, and without a previous naming system already in place in whatever society they were born into, this tends to result in many of them just going with the simple name structure of "(self-descriptor) Dee", simply to have something to be called by. Future generations of Waddle Dees who were instead wishborn may still follow this naming scheme just by virtue of their parents.
